Course Description

Embark on a journey of possibilities with "Introduction to Connective Tissue & Equine Lymph System" with the Holistic Equine Academy of Lymphedema (H.E.AL.) facilitated by Theresa Mueller, the founder of H.E.A.L. Theresa shares her unique view and experience on the intimate role connective tissue and the equine lymph system has on our horses well-being and its impact on common equine disorders. As you traverse this course, there are three takeaways Theresa wants you to embrace: 1. View connective tissue and its relationship to the equine lymph system from a different lens to broaden your awareness and move the equine community forward on these two systems' critical role in our horses' well-being. 2. Emphasize the significant role the proper balance of microbes has in horses' connective tissue and lymph system. 3. "Why" manual therapies such as manual lymph drainage can influence connective tissue behavior and eliminate waste via the lymph system, allowing the body to self-correct to heal and acquire optimal health. Through detailed discussions and illustrative case studies, as practitioners, you will gain insights into how connective tissue and lymph system contribute to disorders like intermittent and chronic swelling, cellulitis, chronic progressive lymphedema (CPL), laminitis, colic, and much more. Congratulations on enrolling in the Introduction to Connective Tissue & Equine Lymph System. You have taken the first step to cultivate your awareness of how these two systems impact the horse's well-being! The second step is to enroll in HEAL's Equine Lymphatic Grooming Technique Online course, where the combination of knowledge and hands-on skills will bring to fruition the healing potential and achieve optimum results. This course will empower you to understand better how to make informed, impactful decisions in your practice. Believe...in the Possible!

“The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don’t know!” Albert Einstein This quote describes me to a tee! From my earliest recollection, I always had a passion for learning! So, pursuing a career in education fits me perfectly! I am passionate about education and learning because it changes lives! In the early 1990s my husband’s horse, Captain Crunch, came down with intermittent lymphangitis. I asked the vet ...What does he have and how do you spell it? It seemed like it came out of the blue with no real explanation. However, there was an explanation! He just didn’t know it! He said sometimes it just happens and just keep him moving! There was no information on how to manage it and definitely no support was available! I could not understand why. At the time, I worked in a large corporation and knew nothing about massage or holistic care. An opportunity came to change careers and I immediately gravitated to massage. Touch always intrigued me and how it impacted our well-being. As I traversed through massage, I realized it was the Captain’s lymphatic system that faltered. This path led me in 2008 to Hannover, Germany where I became the first American and American woman to become an equine lymphedema therapist. There continues to be a lack of skilled equine professionals knowledgeable in equine lymphatics then, and it is now! The result is equine lymphatics are misunderstood and neglected both in fundamentals and hands on skills . It’s an opportunities for those wishing to specialize to capture a niche and untapped market! This prompted me to develop the first equine lymphatic learning portal for equine professionals to acquire both the fundamentals of basic equine lymph system and hands-on-skills to manage various lymphatic congestion both visible and invisible. There are 4 levels of expertise a practitioner can acquirer. The basic professional level will address the majority of the basic lymphatics congestion issues a practitioner will experience in the field. The equine lymphatic therapist can easily combine the hands-on skills into their current modalities. The remaining 3 levels are for those who wish to specialized in managing more complex lymphatic disorders, aid in documenting lymphatic results to acknowledge the value equine lymphatic therapists can provide in this industry. The various levels are designed to make it accessible, doable, and affordable, no matter where you are in the globe! “Believe when it’s beyond reason to believe!” Voltaire Believe…in the Possible! Theresa continues her passion for education in both human and equine wellness matters by attending various seminars and workshops throughout the year. Theresa happily shares these ongoing discoveries with her clients through her newsletter, her training curriculums, and of course, social media. Listed below are Theresa’s credentials: • Bachelor of Arts - Education • Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage & Body Works as a Massage Therapist • Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage Bodywork - Approved Provider • Certified Manual Lymph Drainage and Complete Decongestive Therapy (Certified Lymphedema Therapist) • Certified Equine Sports Massage Therapist • Certified Equine Lymphedema Therapist (Hannover Veterinary School, Hannover, Germany) • Continued Advanced Studies in massage, nutrition, and equine wellness

Slide 3 & 4 - Introduction to Connective Tissue Outcomes Chapter

This lesson emphasizes the importance of outcomes as a key learning tool. Outcomes should not be dismissed but used to navigate and reinforce learning throughout the course. Each outcome helps articulate key concepts, and the associated slides provide an easy reference for refreshing knowledge. This systematic approach enhances recall and makes it easier to locate information within the documentation and presentation.

Slide 7 - With gratitude and thanks to those who made this journey possible both people and the horses!

This lesson expresses deep gratitude for the people and horses that made the work possible, with a special acknowledgment of Dr. Vodder and his wife, Estrada. Dr. Vodder pioneered manual lymph drainage, a technique that has had a significant impact. His wife, a naturopath, contributed to their shared mission, and together, they changed the world through their dedication and perseverance. The lesson also clarifies that the method being discussed is indeed Dr. Vodder’s approach, distinguishing it from other protocols.

Slide 10 - Why is connective tissue important Dr. Emil Vodder...said so!

This lesson emphasizes the critical role of connective tissue in the lymphatic system, inspired by Dr. Vodder’s work. The instructor shares their journey of studying manual lymph drainage and discovering, through Vodder’s Compendium, the overlooked connection between connective tissue and lymphatic function. Despite taking multiple classes, this key relationship was rarely discussed. The lesson underscores the importance of recognizing and teaching this connection, positioning this course as one of the first to acknowledge it and honor Dr. Vodder’s legacy.
